This newsletter is dedicated to alternatives to focusing on GDP growth, such as measuring well-being through considering physical and mental health, pollution levels, non-recycled waste, the gender pay gap, volunteer numbers and over 40 other indicators.  It also addresses ‘happiness’ as a measure, evaluating equality by investigating how evenly distributed life expectancy and wellbeing are across a country.

For us at BMC, the way we measure success matters most. In using GDP as our key indicator of a nation’s success, the UK cannot strategically and single-mindedly seek net zero emissions and the huge levels of inequality of wealth and opportunity will remain. This cuts across all industries – farming, social policy, manufacturing and local communities.
