Hand picking leaves

Vocational, hands on courses, setting you up for your chosen sustainable, low impact career.

Each of our year-long NVQ level 2 courses offers the opportunity to gain skills and experience for a rewarding career, as well as contributing to a healthy planet. You’ll learn via practical indoor and outdoor learning backed up with classroom theory and be taught by teachers with extensive experience.

Our NVQs are accredited by City and Guilds and validated by NPTC.

Choose your pathway

Our one year, full time, NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) Level 2 course is the equivalent of three days a week contact time.

Sustainable and progressive

Alongside the subject specific learning, one day per week is dedicated to our groundbreaking life skills programme; a mix of tutorials, industry work experience, and invited speakers. The programme will give you an introduction to systems thinking, ecology and sustainability, diversity and inclusion, different modes of learning, and practical skills such as presentations, research and writing as well as careers guidance and support.

Student support & enrichment

BMC has dedicated staff to look after you in-house and ensure you’re happy and supported in your learning.

Further, as a NPTC enrolled student you will have access to the support and extra-curricular benefits all NPTC students enjoy. You can find out about them here.

Covid-19 and Online Learning

As things change, we will too, with access to online learning if needs be. As most of the content is hands-on, wherever possible we aim to continue teaching outside and we have flexible classroom space to allow for social distancing indoors.

How to apply

There are no entry requirements, although you will need to have gained a grade ‘C’ in Maths and English GCSE by the end of the course if you have not done so already, and we can help you with that.

Admissions

2021 is the first year that BMC is offering these courses and we are keen to welcome a diverse cohort of learners from all ages and backgrounds. Addressing the climate and ecological emergency requires learning from and respecting all perspectives and ages. If there are more people than we can accommodate on the course, we will recommend other possible options at NPTC that might be suitable.

Costs

All tuition fees for further education are fully funded by the Welsh Government for everyone regardless of age.
