benefits and income support

Please be aware that studying on one of our full-time courses may make you ineligible to receive some benefits. Eligibility for benefits is highly dependent on your personal circumstances and the type of benefit you receive or want to apply for. It will be very different for everyone, so you MUST speak to your Work Coach to obtain the right information.

Generally, you may be able to continue receiving Universal Credit or means-tested ESA only if one of the following applies to you:

  • you are aged 21 or under without other support
  • you are responsible for a child
  • you are over pension age
  • you are in receipt of a form of disability allowance/PIP

PIP, Disability Living Allowance or other disability benefits are non-means-tested and would likely not be affected by full-time education if the course does not conflict with your condition. You must talk to your Work Coach to inform them of your studies.

If you do not know your Work Coach, you must ring your local JobCentre as one will be assigned to you.

You are also able to contact Citizens Advice first to discuss your options on 0808 27 87 922.
