One-Day Short Course

Going to uni or college this September? Can’t cook or won’t cook? This course is for can’t cook new students who would like to be equipped with recipe knowledge to create their favourite foods. From pizza to stir-fries, we’ll show you quick methods using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. For those who won’t cook, we’ll join in to see if we can stoke your passion for food!   

This course is for those who are aged between 16-18 years old.

This course is run in partnership with Swperbox CIC.


What will I do and learn? 

  • Get sorted with a stock cupboard list 
  • Know how to prepare food safely and hygienically 
  • Learn easy, nutritious and delicious recipes to make those take-away staples like pizza, burgers and stir-fries 
  • Grab hints and tips on where to find market fresh and seasonal produce in your new town or city 
  • Learn some nifty knife skills to impress your roommates 
  • Discover practical ways to reduce the amount of food you throw away 
  • Take home a resource pack to help you on your next cooking adventure 

Key Information

Date – Saturday 23rd July 2022 from 10am – 2pm

Location – Gwernyfed High School, Three Cocks, LD3 0SG

What you need – You will be provided with all ingredients and utensils necessary. You should wear suitable, loose-fitting clothing and full shoes – no open toes. Please bring an apron. If you do not have one please let us know and you can borrow one of ours.

Please bring a water bottle. Tea and coffee facilities available free of charge.

Tickets are FREE! We do however accept donations – please consider making a donation of any size.


Who will I learn from? 

Alex Cook 

Alex is the director of Swperbox CIC. Swperbox is Wales’ own recipe box delivery company. Swperbox was born to combat the long term impact of the coronavirus pandemic here in Wales, creating sustainable careers, investing in community food education and supporting a network of Welsh Food Producers to improve food security. Wales’s first National Director of Slow Food Wales and Slow Food UK and Chef/Owner of Pink Peppercorn Food Co. a multi-award winning catering company specialising in Traditional and Modern Welsh Food, harnessing the power of local, seasonal and sustainable Welsh ingredients.
