Cooking with Foraged and Seasonal Produce

One-Day Short Course

Want to learn how to use local and seasonal ingredients? You’ll learn some simple, healthy and delicious recipes to cook at home on this one-day course. For individuals or pairs with an interest in cooking in a sustainable way. You will share the food made during the session and there’ll be more to take away. You will learn to make a seasonal Ratatouille dish along with handmade flat breads. Along with basic knife cuts skills and to perfect the art of kneading bread. 

This course is run in partnership with Swperbox CIC. 


What will I do and learn? 

  • Discover practical ways to use ‘free’ ingredients such as foraged plants from your garden and try different foraged dishes 
  • Do a taste test. Taste the difference between supermarket imports and locally grown fruit and vegetables 
  • Make a seasonal Ratatouille dish along with handmade flat breads 
  • Learn to incorporate seasonal produce in your recipes 
  • Make a nutritious smoothie or soup  
  • Plan and prepare a healthy, nutritious meal from Gwernyfed Walled Garden produce

Date – Saturday 25th June 2022

Time – 10am – 2pm

Location – Gwernyfed High School, Three Cocks, LD3 0SG

What you need – You will be provided with all ingredients and utensils necessary. You should wear suitable, loose-fitting clothing and full shoes – no open toes. Please bring an apron. If you do not have one please let us know and you can borrow one of ours.

Please bring a water bottle. Tea and coffee facilities available free of charge.

Tickets – We have some free tickets available for Powys residents. With thanks to the UK Community Renewal Fund.

We would like our short courses to be available to all regardless of ability to pay. We, therefore, ask you to pay what you can towards this event. We have some tickets available at a lower rate of £10, and some available at a higher rate of £50. Who will I learn from? 

Cara Perfrement

Cara has been within the catering industry for the past 25+ years and previously been a Catering Manager at a prestigious boarding school in Surrey. She has a passion for the outdoors and loves taking her kids out to find what they can forage to add to their dinner.
