Accommodation
Where you live is just as important as how you live, so we currently have several options to help make your immersive learning experience ‘all-in’.
Moving away from home is a big part of the student experience so we’ve put together some information to help explain your accommodation choices.
We will always try our best to find or provide you with accommodation in your first year of study with us, and second year students will be assisted to find suitable accommodation in or near Talgarth if they wish.
Unfortunately, we cannot offer student accommodation to anyone under the age of 18 years old.
Transport: Our Troed yr Harn Farm campus is ‘car-free’, and all students will be encouraged to walk or cycle from Talgarth town centre where possible. BMC will also operate a subsidised minibus shuttle between local towns, campuses and sites of student residence.
Cost: Our own private student accommodation options start from £140pw, whereas local host options can range from £100pw upwards. Prices can vary depending on room/accommodation size and location.
Our dedicated student support team will be on hand to assist students with choosing the best option for them. Below are several examples of available accommodation:
- ‘Home-stay’ at hosts in the local community – Several of our current further education students are lodging with local residents. Find out more about these options here.
- BMC’s shared or private accommodation:

Location
The town of Talgarth is an historic rural community in the heart of the Black Mountains. Our teaching venue at Hay Castle is a 6 mile cycle ride on relatively flat roads or a 15 minute journey in our minibus. The Troed yr Harn campus is a walk of 1 mile uphill from Talgarth town centre, through the Pwll y Wrach nature reserve. There are daily buses along the foothills of the Black Mountains between Hereford, Hay, Talgarth and Brecon.
Hay-on-Wye is known as ‘Book Town’ with many bookshops, cafes and restaurants and boutique shops and a cinema. Home to the world famous Hay Festival and newly renovated Hay Castle – there’s a lot going on!
Brecon is a cathedral city with a range of high street shops, nightlife and theatre along the Brecon and Monmouth canal. It is 8 miles from Talgarth and 12 miles from Hay on Wye.
Abergavenny is home to the world-famous food festival, the gateway to many outdoor activities and a rail link to Newport and national destinations beyond. It is 20 miles from Talgarth and 18 from Brecon.
