Intro to Repointing in Lime

Learn to rake out and prepare a wall for repointing, familiarise yourself with all the tools and materials involved in the process and learn to mix and use two types of lime mortar.

The day will take you through the whole repointing process. The day will start by looking at the building and looking at potential problem areas. You will then be introduced to the tools for wall preparation, and each person will have their own section of wall to work on for hands-on learning. Once the wall is ready to be pointed, we will learn how to mix both NHL 2.0 lime with dry aggregate and a ready bagged fat lime/non-hydraulic lime using a simple paddle mixer. Participants can then start learning to repoint using each type of lime mix and feel the differences between the two types of lime mortar. The day will end with finishing technique and after-care instruction. There will be time to discuss your own project and so bring your questions and pictures for ‘show and tell’.
