Job Title: Minibus Driver
Hours: One part-time regular position available (13-hours per week contracted) – job
share considered.
Additional casual driver bank positions available.
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Hourly Rate: £15.50p/h including holiday pay
Start date: ASAP
Location: Talgarth/Hay-on-Wye regularly, with some field trip/events/opportunities
available to other areas
Background of BMC:
Black Mountains College (BMC) is a unique rural college based in the Bannau Brycheiniog National
Park. BMC re-imagines what education is for and how it is delivered. Our approach connects the
environment, society and the individual to produce rounded, resilient future leaders and change –
makers.
We are now in our third academic year and have students of all ages and backgrounds participating
in our Level 2 NVQs, short course programme and degree – BA (Hons) Sustainable Futures: Arts,
Ecology and Systems Change.
Purpose of the role:
Ideally, we are looking for one regular minibus driver to cover our College bus route, contracted for
13-hours per week split as follows:
- Monday: 8.45am – 9.15am and 2.45pm – 3.15pm (paid for a minimum of 1 hour per trip)
- Tuesday: 8.30am – 10am and 2pm – 3.30pm
- Wednesday: 8.30am – 10am and 2pm – 3.30pm
- Thursday: 8.30am – 10am and 2pm – 3.30pm
- Friday: 8.45am – 9.15am and 2.45pm – 3.15pm (paid for a minimum of 1 hour per trip)
This route includes trips from Talgarth centre to/from our Farm (Troed yr Harn), as well as trips from
Talgarth to/from Hay-on-Wye. Term time only.
If you cannot commit to these weekly hours but are interested in ad-hoc driving (including cover for
the above hours during holidays or sickness, driving for field trips, events, or short courses) please
apply as we require additional ad-hoc drivers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Take responsibility for your route and the students on the bus.
- Collect and drop-off students on time.
- Adhere to the bus timetable.
- Perform a safety check on the minibus weekly (including tyre pressure, oil, water etc.)
- Ensure you are aware of your route prior to setting off.
- Liaise with the COO in the case of delays or other issues.
- Manage a fuel card (regular drivers only) and refuel when necessary.
- Take responsibility for the safety and condition of the vehicle.
Skills and Experience:
- Reliable and punctual
- Prior driving experience
- Full, clean D1 licence required
- Preferably MIDAS certified or hold a CPC licence
- First Aid trained (or willing to complete)
- DBS check required (paid for by BMC if you do not currently hold one)
