Job Title: Chief Financial Officer
Hours: Part-time, permanent (15 hours, 2-days per week)
Reports to: CEO
Salary: £65k pro-rata
Benefits: 28 days holiday + bank holidays + Christmas shutdown.
Location: Talgarth & remote by agreement with Line Manager
Background of BMC:
Black Mountains College (BMC) is a unique rural college based in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. BMC re-imagines what education is for and how it is delivered. Our approach connects the environment, society and the individual to produce rounded, resilient future leaders and change-makers. We are now in our second academic year and have students of all ages and backgrounds participating in our Level 2 NVQs, a varied short course programme and a new degree – BA (Hons) Sustainable Futures: Arts, Ecology and Systems Change.
Purpose of the role:
We are looking for an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to help shape and operate the College’s financial activities, effectively manage risk to protect the College’s assets, and lead the financial strategy for this growing organisation. The part-time role is part of a small leadership team and reports to the Chief Executive Officer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead financial planning
- Implement and monitor financial controls to manage organisational risks
- Ensure that appropriate financial systems and policies are in place and adhered to
- Establish reliable, timely and appropriate current, forecast, and budget reporting to help manage the organisation and facilitate board oversight
- Prepare statutory reports that comply with legal structures
- Develop appropriate investment strategies and banking relationships
- Control the organisation’s capital structure, oversee grant compliance, and manage investor relations
- Ensure cash flow is appropriate for the organisation’s operations
- Supervise finance staff and relationships with professional advisers
- Ensure compliance with all relevant charity, company, and taxation laws
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience as CFO or similar, preferably 7-10 years experience
- Knowledge of charity law
- A relevant degree or higher-level qualification (ACA preferable)
- Numerate and analytical mind
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- In depth knowledge of company financial law and risk management practices
- Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods
- Proficient in the use of MS Office and financial management software
- Experience working in an educational organisations
- Interest in sustainable development and sustainability accounting
- Strategic thinker and problem solver
- Strong leadership and organisational skills
- Excellent communication and people skills
